Aswat Masriya is seeking a multimedia editor. This is a full time position based in Cairo. Aswat Masriya is a website containing the latest news and information on 2011/12 elections in Egypt- there are both Arabic and English versions. The project is an initiative of Thomson Reuters Foundation in London, but the site is run by a local team in Cairo.
The editor will take responsibility for all multimedia on the websites and create multimedia stories regularly. Examples of current work can be seen here. Candidates must be experienced in video production and editing and will be in charge of assembling raw material (often mixing photography, audio, soundtracks and video) into a powerful product suitable for broadcasting on Aswat Masriya. We are willing to hire a recent graduate, but more experienced candidates are also welcome to apply. The salary will be adjusted accordingly. Candidates must be fluent in both Arabic and English.
Typical responsibilities under this role
The editor will create the narrative and structure of each story, interview or report. S/he will undertake full responsibility for all multimedia content- from the moment s/he receives a brief right through to post-production editing and delivering the final result to the required specifications.
Additional activities include:
- Overseeing the quality and progress of audio and vision engineering and editing;
- Consultation with the Aswat Masriya team throughout the post-production process;
- Experimenting with styles and techniques including the design of graphic elements;
- Selecting the most effective shot of a scene in terms of drama, story relevance or continuity;
- Writing voiceover/commentary;
- Suggesting or selecting music.
Technical requirements for the role:
As well as having experience in the activities outlined above, candidates must fulfil the following requirements;
- Expertise in multimedia pre-production, recording, and post-production. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro is required.
- Knowledge of the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Knowledge of After Effects and Motion for motion graphics is desirable but not essential.
- Attention to sound quality and to its range of high standard editing tools such as Pro Tool and 3D animation or Flash knowledge is desirable but not essential.
Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems (CMS) for multimedia publishing is also appreciated, but not essential.
