Reduction of child hunger and malnutrition, encompassing our food security/livelihoods and nutrition work, is one of four strategic priorities for Save the Children (UK), along with improving Child Health, Education and Protection. Our work in Hunger Reduction aims to reduce malnutrition among young childrne, reduce risk and acheive an underlying improvement in the economic siutaiton of families thereby improving food security focusing on high burden developing countries.

 

For significant impact on child hunger and malnutrition at scale in West Africa and Central Africa, our approach recognizes that wider changes in policy and societal practices are necessary. Policy, advocacy adn wider mobilization of the public at national and international levels are key requirements to acheive lasting change.

 

In this new and exciting position you will play a key role guiding our hunger reduction portfolio in West and Central Africa, building new and innovative development programes, supporting emergency responses where necessary and bringing strategic coherence to our work and setting the orgnaization's path in new areas.

 

The purpose of this role is to support country offices in West and Central Africa to design and deliver high-quality food security and livelihoods programmes that reduce child hunger and malnutrition (both chronic and acute malnutrition). You will play a critical role in raising new institutional funds and supporting the delivery of high-quality programmes with the potential to be scaled up by us and others.

 

The post-holder will be a credible and authoritative voice in discussions about regional policy, situation analyses and response. You will provide support in programme developemnt, fundraising, quality assurance, advocacy, recruitment, capacity-building, knowledge management and networking. This support will be delivered both from a distance and through regular country visits. The post-holder will be expected to work closely with a range of colleagues in country offices, the West and Central Africa Regional Office in Dakar, colleagues in the Hunger Reduction and Livelihoods Team and other stakeholders in the London office of Save the Children UK.
