* URUZGAN - Suicide attackers killed at least 19 people, including civilians and security forces, and wounded another 35, when they attacked government buildings in Afghanistan's southern Uruzgan province on Thursday, officials said.

Up to six suicide bombers, some armed with guns, stormed the compounds of the provincial governor and police chief in Tirin Kot, capital of Uruzgan, said Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

Three bombers had detonated their explosives and police were engaged in a gun battle with the remaining attackers, he added.

* KABUL - A service member from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed by a homemade bomb in eastern Afghanistan, the coalition said in a statement. It gave no other details.

HELMAND - Unknown gunmen killed Haji Norani, the commander of an auxiliary police force in Marjah, an area in Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province on Tuesday evening, the governor of Marjah, Abdul Mutaleb, said.

Norani was killed along with his son while visiting a village in neighbouring Lashkar Gah district of Helmand, he said. Norani commanded a government-backed community police unit in Marjah, separate from Afghanistan's national police force and was a powerful man in Marjah, Mutaleb added.

HELMAND - One policeman and a civilian were killed and two policemen were wounded when a roadside bomb the police were trying to defuse exploded in Bolan area of Lashkar Gah district, deputy police chief for Helmand province, Mohammad Ismail Hotak, said.
