Feb 3 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Pakistan on Friday at 1600 GMT.

* PESHAWAR - A homemade bomb exploded next to a house in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least three people, police officials said.
* KURRAM - Militants attacked a military checkpost in the Alizai area of the northwestern Kurram tribal region, near the Afghanistan border, killing eight soldiers, local security officials said, adding that five soldiers were missing.
Eighteen militants were killed when Pakistani forces retaliated, the officials said.
KHYBER - A homemade bomb exploded outside a house in the Bazaar Zakhakhel area of the northwestern Khyber tribal region, killing one person and wounding two others, local government officials said.
KHYBER - Militants attacked a paramilitary checkpost in the Bara area of the northwestern Khyber tribal region near the Afghanistan border, killing a soldier and wounding another two, security officials said.
Two militants were killed when Pakistani forces at the post returned fire, officials added.
A major land route to Afghanistan passes through Khyber which was used to supply U.S.-led coalition troops before Pakistan suspended it in protest against a Nov. 26 NATO air attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN - Militants set off explosives at a girls' school on the outskirts of the northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan, damaging much of the building, security and education department officials said. There were no casualties.
Dera Ismail Khan is close to Pakistan's unruly tribal regions along the border with Afghanistan, where several militant groups have strongholds.
