Security developments in Iraq, September 29

Sept 29 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq as of 1930 GMT on Thursday.

* Indicates a new or updated item.

* KIRKUK - Police found the body of a young man who had been choked with electrical wire in southern Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, the Kirkuk police operations centre said.

* KIRKUK - A sticky bomb attached to a car blew up in southwestern Kirkuk, seriously wounding the driver, his wife and three children, the Kirkuk police operations centre said.

* BAGHDAD - A U.S. service member was killed in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said in a statement.

KIRKUK - A suicide bomber blew up a car at a bank where police officers were collecting their salaries, killing three people and wounding dozens of others, in central Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, local authorities said.

TARMIYA - Two mortar rounds landed at an Iraqi army base, killing a soldier and wounding two others in Tarmiya, 25 km (15 miles) north of Baghdad, an army source said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen using silenced weapons opened fire at a car, killing an interior ministry official and wounding his driver in Baghdad's northeastern Palestine Street, an interior ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen on a motorcycle, using silenced weapons, opened fire at an Iraqi police patrol, killing a police major and wounding a policeman in Baghdad's northern Waziriya district, police and hospital sources said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen in a speeding car, using silenced weapons, opened fire at an Iraqi army checkpoint, wounding a soldier in Baghdad's northern Waziriya district late on Wednesday, a police source said. (Compiled by Baghdad bureau)
