Syria: humanitarian aid reaches people in Homs and Bludan

A convoy loaded with these supplies entered the city yesterday, while a similar convoy reached Bludan.
"We are greatly concerned about the consequences of the unrest from a humanitarian viewpoint and about the current deterioration of the situation", said Marianne Gasser, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)'s delegation in Syria, who led the convoy that entered Homs. "The population, particularly the wounded and sick, are bearing the brunt of the violence."
Thousands of people have gathered in Bludan after fleeing from the nearby city of Al-Zabadani, 50 kilometres north-west of Damascus. "Our volunteers were able to deliver food parcels, blankets and other urgently needed supplies to these displaced people," said Khaled Erksoussi, head of the Red Crescent's emergency operations.
The president of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Dr Abdul Rahman Attar, coordinated and facilitated the two missions.
The Syrian Red Crescent and the ICRC are planning further missions to continue providing humanitarian aid to people affected by the unrest in Syria.
