KAMPALA, April 29 (Reuters) - Ugandan police fired bullets and tear gas on Friday to disperse crowds protesting the arrest of opposition leader Kizza Besigye during a demonstration on Thursday against high prices, a Reuters witness said.
Crowds burnt tyres to block roads in the centre of the capital Kampala and stoned shops and cars to express their anger at Besigye being beaten, pepper-sprayed and dragged away by police during his arrest, all shown on TV footage.
Besigye was later released on bail. [ID:nLDE73R0MB] (Reporting by Barry Malone; Editing by David Clarke)
