US debt talks may have to reassess soon -Senator Kyl
Mon, 20 Jun 2011 20:34 GMT
WASHINGTON, June 20 (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, one of two Republicans negotiating a debt limit and deficit-reduction deal with Vice President Joe Biden, on Monday said that if sufficient progress is not made by week's end, the group will have to "reassess the situation."
Kyl was responding to a question from Reuters on whether Biden and a bipartisan group of six lawmakers will soon have to pivot toward a short-term debt limit increase, instead of one extending through 2012, if progress in the talks is slow.
But Kyl refused to be specific on what course of action might be pursued if the Biden group has to "reassess."
