VIDEO: Sahel - Urgent assistance needed

Millions of people across the Sahel region of West Africa are in need of urgent support as longstanding food shortages develop, once again, into a crisis.

Drought and failed harvests have left communities in Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Mauritania and Chad - many of which were weakened by food shortages in 2010 – facing the prospect of famine. Recent and on-going conflicts in Cote d'Ivoire, Mali and Libya have exacerbated the situation.

There is still a short window of opportunity to act before the situation deteriorates to a point where it is devastating for communities and far harder for aid efforts to address. But the money so far pledged by donor governments is currently $450million short of the $724m required.

This short film combines footage taken from affected communities in Burkina Faso, during Christian Aid's recent assesment visit.
