Heavy winds and rains sweep Hong Kong as Typhoon Utor approaches.
The island raised its cyclone alert level early Wednesday as gales up to 139 km per hour were recorded in parts of the region.
Dozens of flights were cancelled, hundreds were delayed.
The cyclone is not expected to hit Hong Kong directly, but move toward the western fringes of mainland China's Guangdong province and Hainan Island.
Residents in low-lying areas have evacuated and thousands of vessels suspended operations.
Utor was the worst typhoon to hit the Philippines so far this year, killing six people and displacing over 30,000 families.
