South Africa needs a lesson in anti-corruption...

JOHANNESBURG - There is evidence of large-scale corruption in South African schools, according to a report by anti-graft watchdog, Corruption Watch, The Mail and Guardian reports. The organisation said 12% of reports on corruption it had received since its inception in 2012 related to alleged corruption in schools, the newspaper said. The reports indicated that principals, school governing body members and, to an extent, teachers, manipulated and abused the school system to enrich themselves, the newspaper added.

SNC-Lavalin back on track for public contracts...

MONTREAL - SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., the massive engineering firm mired in corruption and bribery allegations, has been cleared by the securities regulator in the Canadian province of Quebec to once again bid on public work contracts, the Montreal Gazette reports. The company said Wednesday that the Authorité des marchés financiers granted it the ethics certificate necessary to bid on contracts in the province, the newspaper added.
