Iranian customs officials pay high price for graft...

TEHRAN - Iran has executed a customs contractor for corruption and sentenced to death three customs employees, the judiciary said, according to The Daily Mail. Judiciary spokesman Alireza Jamshidi said he did not know whether it was the first time an execution for such crimes had been carried out in the Islamic Republic, the newspaper added.

French billionaire Dassault faces custody...

PARIS - French billionaire plane manufacturer Serge Dassault is accused of running a sleepy little Paris suburb like a mafia godfather, AFP reports. He will have his parliamentary immunity lifted on Wednesday, allowing examining magistrates to take him into custody for interrogation over alleged vote-buying in Corbeil-Essonnes, where he was formerly mayor, the news agency said. In a statement to AFP, Dassault said he had decided to waive his immunity, “to show that anything I have done is beyond reproach.”

Jewish religious leader to be tried for graft...

TEL AVIV - Israeli police announced on Tuesday that they had completed their investigation into former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger and were recommending that he be tried for accepting bribes and other offences, Haaretz newspaper reports. Metzger was arrested in November on suspicion of bribe-taking, money-laundering and fraud during his term as Ashkenazi chief rabbi, from 2003 until June 2013, when he stepped down because of the investigation,  the newspaper added. Over 75 percent of the world’s Jewish population are Ashkenazis.
