WASHINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) - U.S. National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Deborah Hersman is leaving the agency to become president of the National Safety Council, the NTSB said on Tuesday.

Hersman, who has been chairwoman of the NTSB since 2009, will step down on April 25. The National Safety Council, a non-profit organization chartered by Congress, seeks to use education and research to prevent accidental injury and death. (Reporting by Eric Beech; Editing by Bill Trott)
