PARIS, March 14 (Reuters) - France said on Friday that an EU peace mission in the Central African Republic risked not going ahead next week if European countries did not raise their military contributions to the project.

"It has to be said at this stage that, despite contributions announced by some European states, the total falls short," said a statement issued by France's foreign and defence ministers, Laurent Fabius and Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Referring to an European Union promise announced on Feb 10, the ministers added: "If additional contributions do not materialise rapidly, it will not be possible to launch this vital operation next week as planned". (Reporting By John Irish; Writing by Brian Love; Editing by Andrew Callus)
