Syria's military said troops had 'restored security and stability' in Yabroud after driving out rebel forces.

Government forces were patrolling the streets on Sunday.

The signs of fighting were clearly visible.

The town lies near the Lebanese border and its fall could choke off a vital supply line for the rebels.

Thousands of civilians fled Yabroud and surrounding areas when it was bombed and shelled last month ahead of the government offensive.

Government forces have been making major gains along the land route between Damascus and Aleppo in the past few months.

They've also gained ground around the two cities, retaking the initiative in the three-year-old conflict that's claimed more than 140, 000 lives.
