WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck the Dominican Republic on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
The quake was centered 10 miles (16 km) south-southeast of Ocoa, Peravia, in the Caribbean country and struck at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the USGS said.
In January 2010, a magnitude 7 earthquake killed more than 316,000 people and devastated Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti, which shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. (Reporting by Mohammad Zargham in Washington)
