In India’s Andhra Pradesh state, a new legal aid programme designed and implemented by the local government and Landesa has helped more than 300,000 families obtain clear title to their land.
A team of trained paralegals travel to rural areas to help poor farmers gather strong enough evidence to claim ownership over the land they have been farming - often for generations - eliminating a leading cause of conflict ranging from legal disputes to physical violence.
“In a country where the system is choked by land disputes… Land rights help reduce conflict and violence,” the video explains.
