Nearly 8,000 Kenyan women die during pregnancy or soon after every year in Kenya. The country has made little progress in reducing maternal mortality rates, the fifth Millennium Development Goal.
Katy Migiro visited Kisumu in western Kenya to find out more about the challenges involved. In the Millennium Village of Sauri, millions of dollars have been invested in making childbirth safer for Kenyan women.
