We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team as Deputy Head of Operations and be responsible for supporting the day to day delivery of Emergency Health Unit (EHU) Operations. You will provide support on the updating and roll-out of the EHU programme strategy.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Deputy Head of Operations you will strengthen the quality, learning, accountability and evalusation of EHU emergency responses. You will also work closely with the Programme Support Manager to deliver the HR sourcing strategy and developing co-ordination opportunities or formal partnerships for staff sharing with partnersIn addition you will:

  • Lead the planning and scheduling of rapid After Action Reviews and proactively propose post-deployment learning and opportunities for development and strengthening
  • Be accountable for the EHU emergency preparedness engagement strategy
  • Work with the head of operatins, project officer, supply chain manager and finance partner on deployment budget planning
  • Work closely with the EHU Head of Supply Chain in the development of operational supply chain partnerships.
  • Be requested to deploy to cover Operation lead gaps and to conduct supervisory visits to the teams (30%)

To be successful you will have experience of establishing emergency humanitarian health programmes in both chronic and rapid-onset emergencies during the first phase of the response. You should have fluent written and spoken English with a technical qualification in post-related discipline(s). Proactive and solution oriented you will have the ability to understand, interpret and leverage global policies from a variety of sources and succinctly summarise and adapt them. In addition you will have:

  • Experience of leading programme operations during an emergency response
  • The capacity to consider both short term and longer term strategic, operational and tactical needs
  • Experience of undertaking representational duties with donors and partners and ministries of health at project and country level
  • Substantial experience of creating, planning and managing budgets, including a good understanding of donor proposals and new business approaches
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to deploy to overseas locations at very short notice.

Proficiency in a 2nd language such as French, Spanish, Swahili or Arabic is desirable.
