Community Liaison Manager – Iraq

Open ended contract, subject to funding

The total salary package for this position is £33,868 - £37,012 per annum* (circa $49,800 - $54,400 USD) including basic salary, hardship allowance, and cost of living allowance.

About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Iraq programme:

Iraq is MAG’s longest-established programme with over 390 national staff. Since the conflict in 2003, the programme has adapted and changed to respond to conflict recovery and socio-economic development needs at the community and regional levels. The programme headquarters is in Erbil supporting activities throughout Northern Iraq. There is a mixture of work going on in the programme at the moment, with work ongoing with legacy contamination as well as response to contamination from recent conflicts and emergency response to that. Therefore there is a lot of work presently with IDP’s, and potential to start surveying some of the newly liberated areas.

About the role:

As a Community Liaison Manager with MAG you will work within local communities with the CL teams to implement key CL activities and liaise with a wide range of relevant stakeholders. Your role will be to enhance national capacity building through contributing to the design and delivery of training and coaching to national Community Liaison staff. This will involve designing and delivering Mine Risk Education programmes to be implemented in the region by your Community Liaison teams. Alongside this, the Community Liaison Manager will be expected to contribute to the design and development of data gathering tools and information management systems, supporting the development of revised impact monitoring tools and working with the programme to enhance their CL strategy.  Finally, this role will be working alongside the current CLM; therefore communication will be key as you will be required to liaise on activities to ensure standard delivery across the programme.

About you:

Successful candidates will have experience of leading, motivating and managing national staff, have strong participatory learning and facilitation skills, and importantly experience of implementing surveys. Also essential, the candidates will have strong skills in analysis of data and impact monitoring. Knowledge and experience of working in the Middle East/conflict environments would also be an asset.

You should be aware though, MAG’s areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so you will need to be able to live and work in challenging environments, where the need for your skills and MAG’s work is most.
