About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Sri Lanka programme:

MAG’s Sri Lanka programme addresses the problems faced by mine-affected communities by providing efficient, effective and safe clearance of land. The Sri Lankan civil war ended in 2009, but landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) continue to threaten communities in northern and eastern districts.  MAG uses a mixture of manual and mechanical teams to maximise the efficiency of the land release process in country. By making land safe and returning it to the affected communities, MAG is helping people in Sri Lanka to rebuild their lives, livelihoods and futures following the civil war.

About the role:

As a senior technical manager, you will be responsible for ensuring quality, safety and efficiency in our humanitarian mine clearance operations and provide direct capacity development support to our local partner.   Working closely with and reporting to the Technical Operations Manager (TOM), you will be accountable for providing internal quality assurance of our operations, ensuring the highest quality of training and programming. You will also be required to deputise for the TOM on a regular basis. This dual responsibility role will head the Training, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit (TMEU) of our programme, and therefore have responsibility for planning and coordinating all training operations, as well analysing the outcomes of training and training needs within programme. You will also be responsible for providing dedicated capacity development support to our in-country mine action partner by assisting them to review internal practices and procedures, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing the opportunities identified. You will liaise with the National Mine Action Centre, our in country partner organisation, local communities, the other mine action stakeholders and the government and demonstrate excellent operational planning and reporting.

About you:

You must be qualified to a minimum of EOD 3 and have extensive experience of implementing and managing efficient minefield clearance operations, ideally in an integrated clearance (manual and mechanical) setting. Successful candidates will need excellent diplomacy and liaison skills to effectively build relationships with our national partners and be able to display a proven track record of successful capacity development of local partners and successful implementation of quality management within mine action programming. You must have excellent people management skills with a proven track record of leading and motivating a team as well as capacity development of national staff. The post holder will also be required to have strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage, improve and report on technical operations. This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager.
