We are looking for an experienced individual with strong strategic skills to join us as our Humanitarian Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Advisor, responsible for the delivery of high quality, timely and accountable humanitarian programming by driving forward an integrated approach to preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence.

Our Humanitarian department supports humanitarian responses within SCI country programmes. In Save the Children UK we provide technical support across seven sectors including child protection, education, food security and health.  Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As SGBV Advisor you will work closely with the HTU Gender Advisor to ensure that a focus on prevention of and response to SGBV is integrated in to prioritised humanitarian response strategies with a particular focus on our responses in conflict. You will also lead the development of multi-sectoral process, tools and guidance on preventing and responding to SGBV in humanitarian contexts.  You will be deployed up to 50% of your time, supporting the implementation of prevention and response strategies in our humanitarian responses.

In addition you will:

  • Work with MEAL and sector Technical Advisors to integrate SGBV into MEAL processes including indicators, quality benchmarks and response monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Work with relevant sectors to support the development of capacity building material to integrate these in standard capacity building packages
  • Review humanitarian response strategies and proposals that include targeted SGBV actions and promote adherence to minimum standards through the provision of technical input
  • Advocate for the internal commitment to building our capacity to prevent and respond to sexual violence, particularly in conflict-contexts.

To be successful you will have an academic or professional qualification at post-graduate level or equivalent in a relevant field such as social work, nursing or psychology. You will also have substantial experience of sexual and gender-based violence programming including the prevention of and response to sexual violence in humanitarian contexts. In addition you will have:

  • A proven record of enabling/facilitating change through influencing, inspiring and mobilising others
  • Experience of humanitarian contexts including in a range of different emergencies
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present arguments clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences
  • A proven record of programme design in a development or humanitarian context
  • Fluent written and spoken English, a working knowledge of French or Arabic is an advantage.
