Contract Length: 12 Months

The Role:

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Programme leads the implementation of a multi-donor, multi-sector programme which serves children in Syria and Turkey. The Director of Programming leads emergency preparedness . Assists in the design of emergency preparedness procedures and take leads on the implementation of all emergency programmes.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Substantial management experience in an NGO environment, including significant field operations experience in both emergency and development programmes
  • Master degree in development or other social sciences or equivalent.
  • Robust experience of NGO emergency programme cycle management, and with experience of working within a complex and matrix organisation structure
  • US Government funding programme management experience required; ECHO and EU highly desired.
  • A very good understanding of at least 3 of the sectoral programmes and a working knowledge of the programme priorities of the Country Office which include Education, Child protection, Emergencies
  • Substantial experience in logistics, including procurement,
  • Experience in international humanitarian systems, institutions and donors, and of procedures, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management
  • Familiar with effective financial and budgetary control and managing grants from major institutional donors
  • Solid project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • An in-depth understanding of national and international children in crisis issues
  • Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
  • Fluency in English required and conversational Arabic desired.
