CARE Canada is currently seeking an Emergency Response Specialist, WASH.

CARE experience has shown that capacity is often stretched beyond its limits by humanitarian disasters, and that additional senior staff resources are needed to provide operational and strategic support from the onset to ensure a more effective response and to reduce financial and operational risks. In support of its new Humanitarian Strategy, CARE International is building a standing team of emergency response specialists. Members of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) are expected to be deployed to the field about 60% of their time, on average.

WASH technical specialists within the RRT are an important part of CI’s Emergency WASH Team, a resource hosted by CARE Australia with support from CARE Canada, Germany and USA. The Emergency WASH Team provides in country and remote support to CARE’s WASH programs, leads on WASH knowledge management, and represents CARE within the Global WASH Cluster.

Because of the nature of the work, demands are fast-paced and unpredictable. This position requires an individual who is very flexible, provides expertise and leadership at a senior level and who works well within a team. Experience in integrating gender equality considerations into humanitarian interventions is required.

She/he will provide technical support in water, sanitation and hygiene promotion in the following areas:

  1. Support for emergency response;
  2. Support for monitoring, evaluation and learning;
  3. Support for capacity building and planning;
  4. Coordination and collaboration with CARE International;
  5. Cross-cutting issues;
  6. Support for program development and program management.

This position is home based and entails significant travel (up to 60% time) often at short notice to emergency locations. There will be a requirement to travel to CARE Canada Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada from time to time.

What we offer:

-          Generous leave entitlements, including December holiday closure;

-          Full benefits: dental, medical, vision care, paramedical, life insurance (some exceptions may apply) and free professional and confidential counselling services;

-          Free Learning and Development opportunities;

-          Specialised training in emergencies;

-          Flexible work hours;

-          Exposure to CARE International operations around the world;

-          Home based from the location of your choosing (some exceptions may apply).
