MAG vacancy: Technical Operations Manager, Mali

The total salary package for this position is £78,612 - £86,568 per annum, including basic salary, hardship allowance, programme management allowance and cost of living allowance.

About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Mali Programme:

MAG has been present in Mali since June 2013. MAG Mali delivers risk education to ensure that local communities, refugees and displaced people in Mali keep themselves safe when exposed to the dangers of landmines and UXO. Alongside risk education MAG conducts non-technical survey, collecting information about the presence, type, distribution and surrounding environment of mines and UXO, to better define where the contamination is. This allows better prioritisation of clearance. The programme is working with local communities to develop a network of Community Focal Points. This involves training men, women, young people, teachers and traditional leaders to share safety messages and collect data relating to accident victims and levels of contamination within communities.

About the role:

Due to continued growth in the MAG Mali programme, we are seeking to recruit a Technical Operations Manager to lead and safely manage all Mine Action and Arms Management and Destruction operations in Mali, as well as leading technical teams of national and international staff. Working closely with and reporting to the Country Director, you will provide high quality technical input into proposals and reports, liaise with donors, and government agencies. As a member of the programmes Senior Management Team, you will need to demonstrate considerable experience of working strategically and ensuring the quality and efficiency of MAG’s clearance work.

About you:

You will need to hold a recognisable EOD 3 qualification and have extensive experience of planning and implementing efficient AMD activities in challenging environments, with a mine action background being beneficial. Previous experience in West Africa is desirable. You will have excellent people and project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage and report on activities simultaneously and remotely.  This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager.  A patient, tactful and diplomatic approach is also required.

Fluent written and spoken French Language skills are essential, with English language skills desirable.
