The role

Save the Children works in four of Haiti’s departments, reaching children and families in over 10 communes with programming in the thematic areas of education, health (including WASH), nutrition, child protection, HIV/AIDS, child rights governance and humanitarian response. It has a current staff complement of over 100 and $5.8 million budget for 2014. We are growing and refining our portfolio to provide quality impactful programs for Haitian children. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in Haiti, the Advocacy, Communications and Child Rights Manager is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of the country office media profile, nationally and internationally, as well as establishing strategic direction on child rights focused programming and supporting the delivery of high quality Country Office programmes through technical leadership on child rights issues. As overall child rights technical lead, the Advocacy, Communications and Child Rights Manager is responsible for the attainment of minimum SCI quality standards and for achievement of objectives and plans as relevant in Advocacy, Communications and Programmes. He/She ensures child rights program coherence in country, technical assistance, and appropriate monitoring and evaluation, including in emergency responses.


Qualifications and experience

Essential
· Recommended a minimum of 3-5 years management experience in a INGO or development policy making environment, including experience directing and implementing programs for children in both emergency and development contexts, preferably with solid experience in more than one of the Save the Children priority sectors: education, child protection, health and nutrition, child rights governance, HIV/AIDs, and emergencies.
· At least masters degree in a relevant social science or professional area
· Experience of working on child rights issues, advocacy and/or communications in the Haitian context
· Proven experience in the development of proposals
· Proven experience in achieving visibility for the work undertaken by INGOs
· Recognized leadership role in relevant technical areas at both field and country level
· Solid project management skills related to organisational development projects and international cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
· Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
· Significant knowledge of international humanitarian systems and procedures, institutions and donors, accountability frameworks and best practices in emergency management

· An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues in particular in relation to children
· Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
· Solid experience of developing and managing monitoring and learning systems
· Good analytical skills. Effective negotiator, with the ability to positively influence cross departmental and cross sector working
· Credibility to lobby, influence and represent Save the Children at all levels. Existing professional network in Haiti strongly desired.
· Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
· Fluency in written and spoken English and French. Haitian Creole and Spanish
