PROTECTION OFFICER

Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR)

 

We are looking for a highly qualifiedproject officer to work in one of the biggest international NGOs in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Who are we?

DRC has been operating in CAR since 2007. Since March 2013, the CAR has been characterized by a situation of generalized insecurity, recently culminating into a wide range of on-going protection concerns, including physical aggression, targeted assassinations, pillage and rape. DRC’s program strategy currently covers the sectors of protection, social cohesion, civil documentation recovery and IDP profiling.

About the job

In charge of the implementation of the activities related to the project “Emergency Protection Response – Enhancing Auto-Protection Capacity in Bangui”, you would refer directly to the Protection Coordinator, who you would also assist in the follow up of all DRC protection activities across other projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the protection and reporting activities within the project are implemented in a timely, professional and sustainable manner;
  • Supervise and work closely with national staff involved in the above mentioned project;
  • Conduct a firm advocacy in search for response on protection concerns; 
  • Act as DRC focal point for the GBV Sub-Cluster;
  • Work closely with local authorities to foster good will and support for protection activities; 
  • Support the Protection Coordinator in the preparation of project proposals and in monitoring & evaluation of project activities;
  • Organize and conduct regular field visits to ensure technical support to field staff and local partners.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Required qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in law, social sciences, or related field;
  • At least 2 years experience in field-based protection projects implementation in emergency or post-emergency settings with an international NGO;
  • User lever computer literacy (Office Package, Outlook, etc.);
  • High proficiency in written and spoken French;
  • Experience in supervision, capacity building and support of national staff;
  • Very good writing and reporting skills;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, negotiation and communications skills;
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, and creative in problem-solving;
  • Ability to cope with heavy workloads and to work under pressure;
  • Willingness to travel and work under difficult conditions, sometimes in settings with few amenities;
  • A high level of social-cultural sensitivity when dealing with colleagues, partners and beneficiaries.

Desirable qualifications

Ideally, you will also have:

  • A Master’s degree in Human Rights, Humanitarian Assistance, etc.;
  • Work experience in institutional capacity building or SGBV;
  • Good level in English.

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a 8-months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from the 10th May 2014 and be willing and able to work in Bangui.
