The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, the IRC restores safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.

The IRC began working in Uganda in 1998 in response to the devastation wrought by the rebel group, the Lord’s Resistance Army in the north of the country. Since the cease-fire agreement of 2006, the IRC has been helping people displaced by this violence to return home and rebuild their communities. At the same time, in Karamoja – one of the poorest and least developed areas in Uganda – the IRC works with communities affected by violence to promote peace and improve access to services, with a particular focus on the needs of women and children. The IRC works in nine districts in Uganda – Kitgum, Lamwo, Kampala, Kotido, Moroto, Napak, Nakapiripirit, and Amudat.

The IRC is s recruiting for the Economic Strengthening Technical Director position to lead the implementation of all economic strengthening interventions under the USAID-funded RFA “Better Outcomes for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern Uganda”.
