We are looking for an experienced and influential individual to join us as an Information Management Specialist. Save the Children’s Humanitarian Public Health team works in close collaboration with WHO to support the coordination of health response. Working closely with government systems and communities, as well as partners and other sectors, we relieve suffering and save lives in humanitarian emergencies, while advancing the well-being and dignity of affected populations.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As our dedicated Information Management Specialist you will be deployed into the up to 60% of the time. When deployed you will manage the collection, analysis and sharing of information for evidence based strategic decision making, in order to guide Humanitarian Health programming in areas affected by an ongoing crisis. When you are not deployed, you will provide technical support to clusters, membership of cluster task teams and support with the roll out of the newly developed Public Health Information Services Systems. Reporting to the Health Cluster Coordinator you will also:

  • Adapt appropriate existing information management tools including those available in-country and global level
  • Perform  basic spatial analysis operations for use in maps and other reports (such as dashboards, SitReps, etc)
  • Design data collection forms, ensuring that all data collected is clear, questions are simple, collectable and easily collatable, highlighting where potential problems might arise
  • Develop simple and effective methods to share information in an appropriate way.

To be successful you will have a degree level qualification in Information Management, Disaster and Emergency Management, Statistics, Epidemiology or other related area. You will have demonstrated knowledge of humanitarian health information systems and significant humanitarian work experience, including information management in the first phase of a major emergency response relevant to the cluster. In addition you will have:

  • Sound knowledge of establishing and managing basic websites using GIS and map-making packages
  • Excellent knowledge of online data collection applications, statistical analysis packages (R, Stata, SPSS, etc)
  • Understanding of GIS/Cartographic outputs and the ability to collect and organize data to support their production
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to maintain professional relationships with excellent diplomacy skills.

Fluency in French, Spanish, and/or Arabic would be an advantage.
