CARE is seeking a talented Girls Education Initiative Manager who will provide overall strategic leadership and direction for the Department For International Development [UK] (DFID) –funded project ‘Kobcinta Waxbarashada Gabdhaha’ under CARE Somalia’s Rural women vulnerable women’s program. The incumbent will manage a consortium comprising CARE, Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA) and 9 Local Non-Government Organization (LNGO) partners to deliver the project results. He/she will work very closely with the Ministries of Education in Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug, and possibly also work with the Somalia National Government Ministry of Education.

The project aims at facilitating social change amongst rural communities in order to encourage girls’ enrollment and retention in education, working closely with communities, religious leaders, community education committees and civil society. She/he will be responsible for the consortium management, reporting to the donor, contract and grant management, management of a unit of technical staff, and the overall technical quality of the intervention. The post will be line managed by CARE’s rural women program coordinator, supported by CAREs Assistant Country Director (ACD) programs and work closely with the program quality senior advisor on partnership and Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) issues. The incumbent will work collaboratively with CARE`s rural program area managers, who will each be implementing a portion of the intervention in a specific region of Somalia.

  • Coordinate monitoring and reporting
  • Other duties as assigned

Primary Skills:

  • Degree in Education or in a relevant field
  • Minimum of five years` experience working in the region and a good understanding of sound programming principles
  • Either solid education sector experience or strong experience in managing programming aimed at achieving social change or a combination thereof. At least 3 years management experience in complex programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in bringing out social change by addressing social cultural barriers affecting girls’ education in challenging contexts.
  • Knowledge of main donors like DFID, European Commission (EC), United States Agency for Intl. Development (USAID) etc. programmatic and financial regulations is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience managing large projects and coordinating with other organizations.
  • Budget and contract management experience.
