The position
The Thomson Reuters Foundation is seeking a talented, high energy journalist, savvy with online production and social media to work for the Foundation in New York, helping to cover spot news on aid and development, women’s rights, trafficking and slavery, the human impact of climate change, corruption and other humanitarian topics.  If you are excited about working in a multi-media environment for an international news organization that has extraordinary reach and focuses on under-reported humanitarian stories and you want to have impact as a journalist, this is the job for you.

You will be U.S.-based and part of the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s award-winning global news team that produces unique stories that have impact and bring under-reported human rights issues to light. You will work with our global team of journalists and our network of freelancers to help build on our coverage from the Americas. You will work as a part of our global team to promote the work of the Foundation in the Americas and lead new initiatives to further our work.

Responsibilities:

  • Report breaking news stories on women’s and human rights, aid, development, trafficking and slavery, c limate change, and corruption to tight deadlines
  • Production of the trust.org news pages, including story selection, adding photographs and related material, creating thematic story packages
  • Tap social media to generate story leads and promote work of the Thomson Reuters Foundation
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills:

  • Highly inquisitive, passionate about news and strong interest in human rights and development policy
  • Strong writing skills essentials, at least three years of professional reporting experience required
  • Savvy in social media techniques
  • Some online production experience preferred; meticulous and organised
  • University degree
  • Spanish an advantage
