Following the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on 25th April 2015, which caused extensive damage, Oxfam is stepping up its relief effort and aims to support an initial 350,000 people, providing clean water, toilets and emergency shelter. We are providing water and pit toilets to earthquake survivors living in four open-air camps in Kathmandu Valley. After a disaster such as this, clean water, emergency food and sanitation are crucial and Oxfam is working with other agencies in Nepal to provide water and sanitation to those affected

 

This is an opportunity to:

 

  • Lead the development and implementation of HR strategy for the emergency humanitarian programme, ensuring it is focused on programme objectives, takes account of the divisional, regional and corporate HR strategy and its performance indicators and contributes to the effectiveness of the emergency response.
  • Make choices about what are the best, most critical people strategies for achieving goals
  • Contribute to the overall management of programmes, drawing on own diagnosis, professional knowledge/experience and knowledge of the business
  • Support the programme management team at the onset of the emergency with Human Resource planning, budgeting and to define country specific policies such as Rest and Recuperation.
  • Develop the strategic and operational planning and implementation of corporate and regional HR initiatives to ensue rollout in an appropriate manner.

 

 

We are looking for a person who has:

 

  • Experience of providing HR leadership and direction in a range of locations and in multicultural environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, coupled with the professional credibility required to influence and motivate others to achieve results, advise and train on human resource issues, and act as an agent of change.
  • An ability to form good relationships with teams in difficult circumstances and over a short time span to ensure that the HR perspective is taken into account at all levels.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with the ability to produce creative and pragmatic solutions to complex HR problems, whilst interpreting and following corporate policy.
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritise work, together with the ability to remain calm under pressure often in difficult circumstances and not lose sight of strategic priorities.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
