We are looking for a Regional Humanitarian Food Security & Livelihoods Adviser (FSL) - Middle East & Eurasia (MEE) to support the design and delivery of high quality, timely and accountable programming in Food Security and Livelihoods in the Middle East and Eurasia region.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Regional FSL Advisor you will be responsible for leading livelihoods analyses of the specific geographical contexts within the region (both in terms of household and markets); supporting the development of country-level strategies and ensuring a coherent regional strategic direction is articulated for Save the Children’s FSL work. As part of the Regional Programme Development and Quality (PDQ) Team you will also ensure quality programming throughout the region and look for opportunities of integration with other thematic areas wherever relevant. In addition you will:

  • Ensure technical support is provided to Save the Children country offices, either remotely or in person with technical assessments, programme design and quality monitoring
  • Engage strategically both internally and externally to promote the most appropriate interventions that not only respond to humanitarian need but facilitate resilience-building and early recovery for vulnerable families in the region in line with Save the Children’s global strategy
  • Ensure that strategic grants, especially ECHO and EU grants are well supported
  • Promote sectoral integration with child protection, education, shelter, nutrition, WASH, health and HIV.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate the flexibility to adapt plans and make decisions in rapidly changing environments, whilst also managing risk and taking action to reduce risk. You will have significant experience and a track record of success in delivering high quality emergency response programmes in food and economic security, including cash and voucher transfers in particular. Educated to MSc/MA/MEng level in a relevant subject or with the equivalent field experience, you will have experience of project management and team management. In addition you will:

  • Have excellent analytical skills, particularly in market analysis and livelihoods
  • Be a strategic thinker with strong communication and representation skills
  • Have a strong understanding of the context in the Middle East
  • Have significant experience in the design and implementation of livelihoods, market-based and cash programming, as well as having the ability to travel at short notice to countries within the region based on need.

The ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations is essential.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
