Marie Stopes International is recruiting for a Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst

The Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst is responsible for supporting analysis and synthesis of client and health service data to ensure MSI services are accessible, equitable, high quality and efficient. The role will involve analysing and disseminating information from MSI’s routine data sources, and include coordinating the annual client exit interviews conducted by our country programmes, combining M&E, research and MIS data to evaluate impact of our family planning and safe abortion programmes and communicating the results to decision makers across the organisation.

We are looking for a data-savvy candidate with creativity and curiosity to investigate and communicate the stories that lie behind the data. You should have a Master’s degree in statistics or equivalent in public health, international development or other related discipline with a strong quantitative background. You are comfortable analysing complex data sets and formulating recommendations for action, including for non-research audiences. Please refer to the Job Framework for further details.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support MSI’s corporate priority of reaching the under-served and delivering high impact contraceptive years of protection (CYPs) through the design, implementation and analysis of the standardised Client Exit interview survey (ca. 13,000 interviews across 25 countries). Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the design and rollout of standardised Client Exit Interviews across MSI
  • Support country programmes in the correct use of syntax, Epi Info and SPSS for analysis of client data
  • Support country programmes in the interpretation, dissemination and use of data to expand the reach of under-served and high impact client groups
  • Lead on regional and MSI-wide trend analysis of client data, including high impact CYPs calculation in accordance with MSI metrics, for decision making on global performance
  • Present and share findings in formats that cater to decision makers in the international programmes department, the medical development and the marketing team

2. Increase data yield by synthesising and sharing MSI’s health service delivery trends: blend data from monitoring, evaluation (M&E) and research sources and assess whether comprehensive family planning and safe abortion programmes are efficient, high quality, accessible and equitable to men and women. Make evaluations available in tailored formats, catering to decision makers’ evidence needs and informing progress towards commercial objectives, medical abortion scale up and reaching the under-served. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Explore efficiency gains between exit interview surveys and the client based information centre (CLIC): Advise how the organisational transition from visit-based data and indicators (snapshot) to client-based data and indicators (longitudinal) can increase productivity and reduce data production costs.

• Increasing data value: Support long-term sustainability by maximising the yield of M&E and research tools such as mystery client surveys, client follow-up studies, quality assurance data, costing exercises, and routine performance data. Interrogate existing data sources to stretch knowledge further, distil global trends and inform programmatic learning about efficiency of service delivery models, client insights, provider preferences, and quality assurance.

3. Support the Health Systems Department and MSI teams with accessible data by presenting and sharing findings in formats that cater to decision makers across the organisation. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to ensuring that:

• client level data is used by global marketing team for marketing strategy

• high impact CYPs are used by regional directors and the international programmes department for programme management

• client level and performance data are used by the new business development team in proposals

• health service delivery data (cost and quality) are being used by internal stakeholders for programme innovation and management

4.  Document M&E Best Practice; add to and update the document library of global M&E guidance; publish and disseminate lessons learn from best practice in M&E, internally and externally;

5. Other duties

• Collaborate or lead on research briefs (MSI-reviewed) and internal communication

• Support with data analysis for peer-reviewed publications and conference submissions

• Carry out other duties as and when they arise

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Qualifications:

• Master Degree in statistics or equivalent in public health, international development or other related discipline with a strong quantitative background

• Recognised qualification in research methods highly desirable (especially quantitative data analysis methods)

2. Experience:

• Proven experience in analysing complex data sets and formulating recommendations for action, including for non-research audience

• Proven experience working cross culturally and supporting remote teams

• Experience in writing and editing documents/papers for various audiences, such as programme managers, policy makers or academics

• Experience within family planning and reproductive health desirable

• Experience in analysing complex datasets and triangulating data from various sources

3. Skills:

• Excellent communication skills through verbal, written and remote communication methods

• Quantitative research skills (including SPSS, STATA and EpiInfo knowledge)

• Highly numerate; able to analyse complex data and express findings in plain English

• Excellent attention to detail; methodical and precise

• Spanish language skills highly desirable
