We are looking for an experienced individual to join us as Senior Economic Programming Advisor, providing support to emergency economic programming and tackling underlying economic vulnerabilities of children to reach outcomes for children in line with Save the Children’s mission; to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Senior Economic Programming Advisor, you will promote and support the implementation of approaches such as Cash+ for specific outcomes (such as nutrition), Social Protection in fragile and conflict contexts and integrated economic programming in recovery of disasters. You will also lead on the development of improved child-focussed casual analysis in overall response design as it relates to improved cash and economic programming. In addition you will:

  • Collaborate with the Child Poverty Global Theme, the Humanitarian Technical Working Groups (HTWGs) to contribute to the development of position papers on integrated approaches along with common approaches and strategies
  • Contribute to related initiatives including the improvement of cash modalities and innovative projects such as the Collaborative Cash Delivery Platform
  • Provide common frameworks, tools and guidance to country programmes to ensure high quality operations and advocacy in emergency cash and economic programmes
  • Lead on specific areas of advocacy directly related to emergency economic programming, building on evidence generated from our programmes.

To be successful you will be educated to degree level or an equivalent qualification in economics, humanitarian food security or another related subject. A strong understanding of how humanitarian programming can support Social Protection is essential, as is significant experience of organisational level thought leadership in a technical sector. In addition you will have:

  • Significant experience and a track record of success in delivering high quality humanitarian economic programmes at scale
  • Experience of strategy development and implementation
  • Knowledge and a willingness to drive new ways of working across Save the Children’s sectors (nutrition, health, child protection, education, shelter, WASH)
  • Strong communication skills at a level appropriate for high level external representation and the ability to tailor communications to different audiences
  • The ability to travel at short notice, occasionally to remote and insecure locations for up to 30% of work time.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
