The Foundation is recruiting a Head of NGO and Social Enterprise for its TrustLaw service. The position would be based in London in Thomson Reuters’ Canary Wharf office.

TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation's global pro bono service that connects NGOs and social enterprises with the best law firms around the world. Launched in 2010, TrustLaw has grown to include 2,000 members in 170 countries, including over 440 law firms and in-house legal teams and over 1700 NGO and social enterprise members. Our mission is to spread the practice of pro bono worldwide to drive social change.

The Head of NGO and Social Enterprise will oversee our network of pro bono clients, ensuring that we provide the highest quality service and that our projects and programmes address the most critical legal and policy issues they face. Supported by a team of programme managers around the world, as well as in London, the Head will report to the Director of TrustLaw.


Responsibilities                                   

  • Managing a team of four (Programme Manager and Programme Officer in London, Programme Officer in New York, and Programme Manager in Spain,).
  • Devising, implementing and overseeing global strategies to expand the TrustLaw membership, ensuring we serve the best NGOs and social enterprises, as well as the strongest law firms and corporate in-house legal teams.
  • Recruiting, vetting, managing and engaging NGO, social enterprise, and legal team members of TrustLaw through strong one-to-one relationship management in Southeast Asia.   
  • Ensuring TrustLaw quality and growth metrics are met;
  • Managing cross-border research and policy advisory programmes that address the most critical needs facing our NGO and social enterprise members.
  • Representing TrustLaw and the Thomson Reuters Foundation by speaking publicly on our work at panels, conferences, or other speaking engagements.
  • Creating and executing a robust communications strategy that includes events, promotion of TrustLaw publications, managing the website content and TrustLaw member communication.
  • Supporting the team on thought leadership projects including the TrustLaw Index of Pro Bono and TrustLaw training courses.
  • Supporting Foundation initiatives including the Trust Women Conference.

 The ideal candidate

  • Has extensive experience in the social sector and understands the challenges and opportunities that NGOs and social enterprises face around the world by having worked directly with organisations in the developing world.
  • Experience in both the private sector and NGO sector is highly desirable.
  • The candidate will have experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, from senior corporate executives and partners of top law firms to social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and any other beneficiaries of our services.
  • The candidate will have experience conducting due diligence, monitoring the effectiveness and impact of NGOs and social enterprises.
  • Has experience managing pro bono projects and working with a number of pro bono clients / law firms across multiple jurisdictions.
  • The candidate will have strong social sector networks in Southeast Asia, ideally having lived in the region working in an NGO/social enterprise environment.
  • Is an exceptional communicator, with strong experience developing and implementing global communication plans, with excellent written and spoken English highly desirable.
  • The candidate will work quickly under pressure, to juggle multiple tasks and requests simultaneously, to meet deadline requirements and to drive projects to completion.
  • The candidate will be a highly experienced and confident public speaker and networker.
  • Is ambitious, dynamic, and creative and with proven strategic thinking and management skills.
  • Has experience managing a global team.   
  • Experience in Salesforce would be favourable.
  • Educated to Masters level in the field of policy, development or law.
  • Willingness to travel internationally frequently.
