Oxfam is a global organisation working in over 70 countries to overcome poverty and suffering through a variety of emergency and long-term interventions. Our humanitarian programmes provide vital help to people whose lives have been affected by conflict and natural disasters. By providing expert advice and technical support on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion  (WASH)  to the regions and countries, our Public Health Team maximises the impact of these programmes on the ground.

Your considerable overseas experience and recent first-hand involvement in  WASH work in Emergency Responses, will enable you to advise and support on the design, assessment, planning, implementation, and monitoring of the community mobilisation and health and hygiene promotion elements of our humanitarian WASH work. In addition to emergency response, you will support capacity building initiatives, contribute to the development of programme quality standards and guidelines and play a lead role in programme research and development.

The strategic and influential nature of the work requires a post-graduate qualification in an environmental health or social sciences related discipline and experience in health or hygiene promotion and community mobilisation overseas.   You’ll need good analytical skills and an in-depth, practical understanding of relief issues and the way in which conflict and natural disasters affect public health and the spread of disease. Also essential are sound training and capacity building skills, experience in field based research and an ability to manage and advise from a distance.  You will be a self starter and also able to work effectively as part of a team  and most importantly, you’ll be a dynamic and enthusiastic communicator/facilitator. Fluent English is essential and a good working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an advantage.
