The Thomson Reuters Foundation leverages the skills, values and expertise of Thomson Reuters to run programmes that trigger change and empower people across the world: free legal assistance, media development, and in-depth coverage of the world’s under-reported stories. The Foundation stands for human rights, women’s empowerment, anti-corruption and for the rule of law.

With over 60 staff members around the world - including over 25 full-time journalists - and offices in 10 locations across the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe, the Foundation has quickly become a point of reference in the corporate philanthropic world.

Some of our high profile initiatives include:

  • Trust Women, an annual conference dedicated to putting the rule of law behind women’s rights through concrete actions. In December 2012 the conference brought together people like Nobel laureates Aung San Suu Kyi and Shirin Ebadi, Queen Noor of Jordan and Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The second trust women Conference will take place on December 3-4 in London.
  • Financial Working Group Against Human Trafficking, a groundbreaking initiative launched by the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr dedicated to fighting human trafficking. Members of the group include some of the world’s biggest financial institutions, US law enforcement agencies, international corporations and NGOs working with trafficking victims. Among them: Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Barclays, TD Bank, American Express, Western Union, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Polaris, Human Trafficking Pro Bono Legal Center.
  • TrustLaw Connect, the Foundation’s award winning service through which the world’s best NGOs and social entrepreneurs access free legal assistance provided by the best law firms and corporations.
  • Aswat Masriya, an independent and unbiased political news website launched by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in Egypt in 2011. Available both in Arabic and English, the site has quickly established itself as an authoritative mainstream source of information, becoming an essential tool for the Country’s difficult transition to democracy.
