Communications Officer
Habitat for Humanity International is seeking a Communications Officer responsible for coordinating and providing counsel on Habitat for Humanity`s social media activity in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes providing support on story-telling and aiding in the delivery of communications plans for special projects and disasters, in order to ensure consistent messaging.
This role is responsible for effectively positioning Habitat for Humanity as a thought leader and shelter expert build brand and raise awareness of decent housing as a way out of poverty. Responsibilities will include developing communication materials for major events in 2014/2015 that include Impact Asia, Habitat Youth BUILD, Asia-Pacific Housing Forum and Carter Work Project This is a 15-month assignment with the possibility of renewal.
Duties and responsibilities
Social media
- Coordinate social media engagement for the Asia-Pacific area office. This includes developing content/materials, working with in-house graphic designer, country offices and headquarters to ensure timely, accurate, compelling information about Habitat’s work in Asia-Pacific is shared across a range of social media platforms.
- Provide counsel to country offices in Asia-Pacific to improve social media activities and increase supporter engagement, particularly amongst youth.
Storytelling & brand building
- Assist in the collection of information from Asia-Pacific area office program teams and country offices to illustrate and explain Habitat’s work and its impact; use gathered information to develop materials for publicity and documenting purposes. This may involve some travel and working with external vendors to ensure professional photos and video.
- Develop presentations for external speaking engagements of senior Habitat for Humanity staff, and internal orientation on aspects of communications for new staff or new initiatives.
- Secure pro-bono opportunities for Habitat advertisements or public service announcements across broadcast, print and online media.
Special events & disaster communications
- Support colleagues to deliver communications plans for special events taking place in the Asia-Pacific region in 2014 and 2015.
- Support colleagues to develop materials following disasters in Asia-Pacific, and share with Habitat network.
- Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in related field
- 3+ years of experience in communications role
- Social media experience
Skills, competencies and experience
Required:
- Solid command of the English language, both spoken and written
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Ability to work and live in cross-cultural settings
- Excellent training and team-building skills
Preferred:
Knowledge of other Asian languages
