For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.  

Médecins du Monde-France is present in Egypt since the end of 2004.
It implemented and completed one project: “Access to Reproductive health care for girls living in the streets of Cairo” (2005-2008). The project has been funded by the European Union and Drosos Foundation.

From 2009 to April 2012, Médecins du Monde-France has implemented and completed a project to improve health care access for children in street situation: “Health right promotion for Children in Street Situation in Great Cairo”, funded by Drosos Foundation.

Médecins du Monde-France has launched on the 1st of may 2014 a project to improve access to mental Health services among most at risk populations in Great Cairo.
The general objective of the project is to improve access to mental health services among at risk population in Greater Cairo, through the strengthening of primary health care centres services, and the community services for patients and their families. Main project components are capacity building of medical and social staff of Primary health centres and local NGOs; health education, anti-stigma activities and advocacy initiatives.
The project will have three specific objectives: 
1. Mental health services are available in 7 PHC centres 
2. Capacities of the civil society to work with vulnerable populations are improved.
3. Effective and sustainable resources are allocated to implement efficient mental health policies. 

MdM will work in partnership with 6 local NGOs; and will have a MoU with the MoHP concerned departments. Moreover, MdM will liaise with other institutional partners like the national councils of Women, of Disabilities affairs, of Mental health, of Childhood and Motherhood; plus with independent professionals and other networks.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The General coordinator co-designs MdM’s operational strategy in Egypt (alongside Desk and RMs), and provides leadership for the country program. S/he is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality programs, donor and government relations, fundraising and budget management, security and operations management, and developing a motivated and professional team. 
The General coordinator reports directly to the Desk officer and RMs.

The general coordinator will be in charge of:
- Mission Management and Organisation 
- Human Resources Management 
- Managing Safety 
- Institutional Representation and Coordination 
- Communication
- Securing Funding

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Starting in mid-January 2015

Duration: 12 Months

Contract : EMPLOYEE (French contract) 

Fixed term contract 

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Experience in a similar position 
Experience in supervision and team management, if possible abroad
Experience in negotiations and relations with local partners and authorities in a difficult legal, administrative and political context (very important)
Experience in public health programs.
Field experience under potentially hazardous safety conditions
Good management and communication qualities
Experience in projects funded by international donors 
Experience in mental health, reproductive health and protection project an asset
Sensitization in advocacy appreciated
Knowledge of Arab or Muslim world is an asset

Languages: Fluent English (oral and written) mandatory

                 French or Arabic is an asset
