Contract length: 9 months, unaccompanied

The role

The Child Protection in Emergency (CPiE) Programme Manager will provide leadership, technical guidance in the development and implementation of the emergency Child Protection programme in Rakhine State with support from the Humanitarian Manager, Deputy Humanitarian Manager and relevant colleagues. The post holder is responsible to provide strategic technical support to the emergency programme in Rakhine State including government and non-governmental partners. The post holder will work closely with the Child Protection Thematic Advisor and the Emergency Advisor for Child Protection to promote good practice and develop consistent approaches and address any problems arising in the field, and ensure guidelines are in place and that training is given.



Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • University Degree in development studies, social sciences, social work or relevant field
  • 5 years management experience in an INGO environment, including experience directing and implementing programs for children in emergency and development contexts at international level.
  • Experience in psychosocial activities with particular experience of youth programming and apprenticeship,
  • Specific experience in setting up and running CP-IMS and community based child protection programming.
  • A solid understanding of child protection issues and sufficient field experience in similar settings to design and implement innovative, appropriate solutions with a focus on program delivery and capacity building in international development in complex emergency situations and from a child rights perspective.
  • Experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control managing multiple grants and donors with ability to build staff capacity on budget management.
  • Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
  • Ability to prepare draft reports against expected results and indicators with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrable commitment to humanitarian principles and accountability frameworks, especially in working with very vulnerable populations.
  • Ability and commitment to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and under difficult and challenging environments.
  • Flexibility and a sense of humour – ability to work, live and thrive under challenging circumstances.
  • A team player who is able and willing to learn from others as well as live and work in a communal setting
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.

Desirable

  • Experience working in IDP/Refugee camp settings
  • Experience working in Southeast Asia
  • Knowledge/Experience of peace-building and conflict resolution programming
