About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Iraq Programme:

Following decades of conflict, Iraq is heavily contaminated with landmines and other unexploded ordnance (UXO) and the ongoing regional crisis has added to the scale of this problem. MAG has been working in Iraq since 1992 and after expansion into new area over the past 12 months; we currently have over 700 national staff and 88 teams operating in 6 areas in northern Iraq. By clearing hazardous areas, MAG has enabled new schools, roads and hospitals to be built, opened up vital trade routes and allowed communities to use their farming land in safety, giving them greater food security and an escape from poverty. Most recently, our work has supported the safe expansion or establishment of camps for displaced people and clearance of areas of return, as well as delivering life-saving risk education for those fleeing the violence.

About the role:

This role will provide you with the opportunity to use your project and people management skills to lead a team of international and national staff across key support functions. This is an exciting time to join the MAG Iraq team, which has expanded rapidly over the past two years following emergency response activities as well as longer-term existing programming.  Reporting to the Country Director, the post-holder will be responsible for managing MAG’s Iraq’s logistics, procurement, Finance and  HR and administrative functions, with added responsibility for developing national staff. You will be responsible for ensuring that all programme management systems are working to enhance efficiency and therefore you will need experience of successfully designing, implementing and promoting new systems. You will also have a key strategic and senior management role in the programme as a member of the Senior Management Team, hold responsibilities for business development and liaison with key stakeholders andacting as the Senior Manager in Country as and when required.

About you:

You don’t need previous experience in mine action but you will need experience in overseas programme management roles with a support services background, in an international aid/humanitarian organisation. Given the scale and size of our programme in Iraq, you’ll need to be a dynamic, motivated, flexible self-starter, able to hit the ground running. You’ll have previous overseas experience managing a wide range of support services, ideally supporting large scale projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced project and support services manager to take the next step in their career and grow their skills in a varied and autonomous role.
