We currently have a vacancy for an Internal Auditor (International) who will be based in Africa. The Internal Auditor (International) will discharge work that supports IRW’s Audit Committee in providing independent assurance to the IRW Board on the state of the control environment and risk management arrangements within IRW.

The Internal Auditor (International) will carry out independent appraisals of the effectiveness of the policies, procedures and standards in all Islamic Relief field offices with a focus on Africa (e.g. Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan) and can include further travel (e.g. Jordan, Lebanon) by which the charity’s financial, physical and information resources are managed. The work will also include reviews to ensure that all guidelines and procedures for institutional grants are followed by Islamic Relief Field Offices. S/he will add value by acting as a facilitator in risk management carrying out reviews, giving advice and thereby assisting the Islamic Relief Internal Audit Unit (IAU) in the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

The successful candidate must have at least a partial qualification in one of the following: CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants) or ACCA (Certified Chartered Accountant), which implies a thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures and practices of accounting, and financial records and transaction. The candidate is expected to have knowledge of audit procedures, including planning, techniques, test and sampling methods involved in conducting audits. You will have an ability to maintain current knowledge of developments related to the organisation, particularly legislation changes and developments as they affect charities, and new auditing techniques and practices. The candidate must have excellent communication skills with proven ability to write high quality proposals in English and have excellent IT skills. Knowing a second language (e.g. Arabic or French) is desirable.
