Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. The Program

SFCG works in twenty Sub-Saharan African countries: Angola, Burkina Faso, Burundi,Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Niger,Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Since 1997, SFCG has developed regional strategies to guide and strengthen national programmes to support achievement of SFCG’s mission.

 

Summary of Position

SFCG evolving operations throughout Sub-Saharan Africa require the addition of a Part-Time Assistant to support the core Africa Team in Washington DC. The Part-Time Assistant will backstop our projects throughout the continent. She/he will support the entire Africa Team, and will also provide support to other members of the Africa Team in regional offices, as and when necessary.

 

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this post include the following:

  • Provide support for travel arrangements for project staff, which may including obtaining visas;
  • Assist with procurement of materials and equipment for funded programs in project countries;
  • Assist with shipping of equipment to programs in project countries;
  • Support for contracting and invoice tasks;
  • Assist with daily administration office tasks such as: scanning, copying, faxing, and printing necessary documents to assist operations;
  • Assist with the maintenance of an up-to-date intranet database;
  • Take notes of Team meetings;
  • Arrange and organize events and meetings; and
  • Support and assist with maintaining up-to-date human resource information for Africa Team staff.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an administrative role, preferably in a non-profit environment;
  • French language skills required;
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred;
  • Experience working with, or in, the Africa region preferred;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to identify and solve problems on an immediate basis;
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and competing demands;
  • Highly motivated and energetic individual;
  • Reliable and dependable;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and Google Drive applications; and
  • Team player.
