Contract length: 2 Years

The role

As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in the Sierra Leone Country Office, the Director of Support Services shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office (CO). He/she will ensure a comprehensive, efficient and flexible logistics and technical support services that enables the smooth functioning of the Country Office and will lead and manage the establishing or scaling up of all emergency response logistics as well as the transition into longer-term programming.

The Director of Support Services is accountable to the Country Director and will support them and other members of the Senior Management Team on the best use of Save the Children’s resources. They provide management, leadership and capacity building to logistics, support and technical service staff and are responsible for ensuring sound logistics practices and rigorous controls are in place across multiple programmes.


Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Logistics Management;
  • Ten to Fifteen years of progressively responsible experience managing diverse logistics operations. Experience in managing logistics in an international environment would be an advantage;
  • Ability to analyse complex information, and make clear, informed decisions; discretion and sound judgment in applying technical expertise to resolve complex and/or sensitive issues;
  • Experience of advising and supporting others at all levels with logistics aspects of a programme, including strategic thinking and planning;
  • Supervisory skills including the ability to coach, mentor and develop staff from different countries, diverse ethnic backgrounds and experience; ability to build relationships quickly with a wide range of people, both internally and externally
  • Excellent negotiating skills; sound leadership skills including the ability to co-ordinate the work of others;
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a substantial workload, with tight deadlines, comprising multiple concurrent activities;
  • Strong communication (spoken and written) skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts and recommendations to staff at all levels, both orally and in writing, in a clear, concise style.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing administrative operational procedures and systems; complete proficiency in computer usage including spreadsheet, database management and internet applications.

Desirable

Formal training in management, budget/finance, risk management.
