Habitat EMEA is moving into an exciting time of expansion, looking to dramatically increase its fundraising activities and scale up the funds raised across EMEA. Habitat for Humanity International's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) area office is currently seeking a Major Gifts Manager for an exciting position tasked with developing a region wide Major Gift strategy for high-net-worth individuals, family foundations and planned giving/legacies. CRITICAL OBJECTIVES:

1) Develop an EMEA-wide Major Gift strategy for significant donations from high-net-worth individuals, family foundations and planned giving/legacies; 2) Meet or exceed an agreed annual channel revenue goal for EMEA; 3) Build an EMEA MD team/structure with the resources and know-how to reach annual revenue goals, among both National Organizations and HQ based staff; 4) Seek and secure philanthropic commitments from a personal portfolio of an agreed number of key prospects.

 

DUTIES:


STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION 1) Conduct EMEA wide research and analysis; 2) Develop an EMEA-wide Major Gift strategy; 3) Implement the strategy at the AO and relevant National Organizations within EMEA. 

 

DIRECT FUNDAISING - management of a personal portfolio: 1) Systematically identify, qualify, and strategize a pipeline for five to seven figure gifts; 2) Routinely network and interact with high-net-worth individuals for the purpose of cultivating personal relationships and developing personal giving;   3) Routinely engage board members, organization executives and current donors in peer-prospect identification, visits, and six/seven figure closings; 4) Close complex gifts such as Diaspora gifts, endowment gifts, planned gifts, and investment and financial products.

 

CREATE A FUNCTIONING EMEA MAJOR GIFT STRUCTURE
1) Install systems and meetings to regularly review EMEA pipeline;  2) Collaborate with strategic National Organizations; 3) Create a continuing capacity building program for HQ and National Organizations;

 

SUPPORT TO EMEA AREA OFFICE AND NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS:
1) Recruit successful major gifts professionals who possess the passion, analytical and interpersonal skills required to secure major and principal gifts, and who can sustain philanthropic relationships; 2) Conduct donor development strategy coaching with gift officers at HQ and National Organizations. Ensure each Major Gift officer is annually closing five, six and seven-figure gifts; 3) Mentor and develop emerging fundraising talent; 4) Effectively manage HFHI resources including travel and business expenses;

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1) Bachelor’s Degree, MBA preferred;

2) 6-10 years of front-line experience in Major Gifts development in a large, multi-national setting, with at least four years of experience managing a team or remote offices;

3) Experience in international development and relief strongly preferred;

4) Successful experience closing complex six to seven figure campaign commitments including planned and endowment gifts, and ideally also financial investments such as low-interest debt financing;

5) Strong experience in (more than 70 percent) front line fundraising from individuals, and proven achievement of goals;

6) Demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and strategic direction.  Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships; 

7) Superior presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with diverse constituencies including principal donors, Board members, staff and leadership in the field.  Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write and speak clearly and effectively, and to listen, and an unusual capacity to engage, inspire and persuade;

8) A self-starter with the ability to build systems that will have a long-term impact on the organization.  Must have an entrepreneurial and creative approach to problem-solving, and the ability to take advantage of emerging opportunities;

9) A high level of energy, self-confidence, and a positive “can-do” attitude are essential, as is humility;

10) An individual of unquestionable integrity whose professional and personal conduct reflects HFH’s values;

11) Excellent English skills in speaking and writing. Ideally skills in two or more European languages.

The position offers a competitive package in the INGO market. The position is based in Bratislava which is a small, beautiful city. The cost of living is low and there are some wonderful places to visit close by such as Vienna (1 hour), Budapest (1 and a half hours), Prague (2 and a half hours), the Tatra mountains (2 and a half hours), the Alps (2 hours) as well as numerous other attractions. The city itself is very easy to get around, has all the facilities you need and a lot of green open areas to relax in in the summer. The summers are Mediterranean temperatures with a lot of lakes to swim in and the beach of Croatia only 4 hours away by car. The winters are snowy with skiing and ice-skating readily available.
