Refusing to ignore people in crisis

As the Country Manager for three Africa Francophone countries in West and Central Africa, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, management and delivery of British Red Cross support to the National Society programmes, capacity building, disaster management and co-ordination and partnerships within the assigned Countries.

 

Using your considerable experience of humanitarian and development assistance in developing countries, you will lead a team of local staff to deliver the British Red Cross’s strategy for the assigned countries. You will support the country teams in developing our current partnerships with Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies in these countries, seeking to strengthen their capacities to respond to emergencies and to build the resilience of vulnerable communities. You will also explore new opportunities for partnerships in the countries with National Societies and with the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), particularly during emergency operations.

 

Whilst ideally you will be familiar with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, key requirements include:

 

  • bilingual in French and English;
  • considerable experience of developing humanitarian programmes and operations in developing countries;
  • experience of developing strategic partnerships;
  • Experience of disaster management including response programmes;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative responses to challenges;
  • Excellent report writing skills and programme cycle management knowledge.

 

The post is located in Dakar, Senegal with a 2 week to one month briefing in London UK, initially. Travel around the region to the three French-speaking countries is required, as is travel to the UK two to four times a year.
