We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join us as Humanitarian Awards Advisor, ensuring high standards of awards management and compliancewith donor requirements in emergency programmes worldwide.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. As Humanitarian Awards Advisor you willlead on the Humanitarian Department’s award management and donor compliance capacity building and process improvement, both within SCUK and working with SCI country programmes and response teams. Providing leadership and oversight to up to four Humanitarian Awards team members, you will support them with complex technical issues and facilitate their professional development through coaching. In addition you will:

  • Provide timely, accurate and comprehensive donor compliance advisory support to the Humanitarian Awards Officers, Finance Business Partners and the wider Humanitarian Team
  • Provide donor compliance expertise in reviews of proposals and reports for home donors (e.g. ECHO, DFID, UNICEF, etc.)
  • Support the Humanitarian Awards Manager in donor research including their strategies, areas of focus and donor regulations
  • Design and deliver internal, donor compliance training and briefing sessions
  • Coordinate with the Partnership Development, Donor Compliance and Regional Portfolio Teams to ensure consistency and synergies in institutional donor knowledge, account strategies and donor compliance.

To be successful you will have a strong understanding of the award management cycle, proposal submission best practices, income claim requests and debt and risk management. You will have the ability to provide high level advice on donor proposals and donor reporting and have experience working with major donors such as DEC, DFID, ECHO and UN agencies. In addition you will have:

  • A background or relevant academic qualification in the field of international development, humanitarian or social/political science
  • Substantial direct experience of award management for an international organisation
  • Experience of reviewing complex, regional emergency proposals and reports
  • The ability to challenge and negotiate assertively and cooperatively with senior staff
  • Strong numeracy skills and a flair for the financial side of award reporting.

The ability to work in French, Spanish or Arabic is desirable.
