The IRC Finance department seeks to achieve excellence in financial management by providing accurate and timely financial information to IRC management and programs and by adhering to established financial practices and accounting principles. The HQ Finance Team does this by supporting and training staff, by implementing and monitoring the implementation of IRC and donor policies and procedures, and by gathering the necessary financial information in preparation of the organizations’ financial statements.

 

SCOPE OF WORK:

As a member for the HQ Finance Team, the Accounting Manager, European Offices will be responsible for recording all activity from European offices on the IRC Inc. ledger and liaising with the European based staff on transactional activity between our offices. The successful candidate will be able to provide dedicated financial support to a growing base in Europe (currently 4 locations). 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Primary contact for technical guidance and support on financial issues as requested by the European finance focal points related but not limited to recording entries in ledgers, salary allocations, reviewing transactional information, setting up new coding and general finance;
  • Review and record monthly intercompany transactions from European locations (UK, Brussels & Geneva) in NY ledger utilizing files prepared by the Europe staff;
  • Submit cash transfers to clear intercompany balances or payments due to European locations on a monthly basis;
  • Provide monthly transaction details & reports of NY based charges to European offices for their ledgers;
  • Approve routine transactional coding on NY generated payments and journal entries against European office budgets;
  • Confirming annual hosting agreement charges and monthly cost allocations for IRC staff based in those offices.
  • Provide coding for restricted income sent to NY from European offices (UK & Netherlands); ensure amounts are reconciled and recorded timely.
  • Follow-up on outstanding grant receivables from Netherlands, ensuring receipts are received timely and recorded accordingly; assist in compiling the financial statements for the required grant reporting.

 

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIP:

Based at IRC Headquarters in New York, the Accounting Manager, European Offices will report to the Associate Controller and will work closely with the finance focal points in the European offices and within the HQ Finance Department.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

 

Experience Requirements

  • 2-3 years progressive finance/accounting experience in the non-profit sector;
  • Previous work experience in a multi-cultural international environment is desirable. 
  • Demonstrated familiarity with GAAP and proven general knowledge of Fund Accounting;
  • Previous work experience with a major general ledger software package – experience with SUN preferred;

  • Solid organizational skills: the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment;
  • Flexible work attitude: the ability to work productively in a team environment & independently and ability to meet unexpected demands;
  • Strong Computer skills: facility with MS Word, Excel, various accounting software, and email/internet software;

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • The position will work in the New York City Headquarters location and is expected to be on-site
  • Standard office work environment
