We`ve now created two fantastic career opportunities for sector professionals who want to be part of an organisation that is focused on delivering a bold strategy to provide sustained improvements to the poorest and most excluded people in the world.

As a Senior Media Officer in our News & Current Affairs unit you will help position ActionAid as an effective and influential voice on global poverty, human rights and disaster response. You will assist with our emergencies and humanitarian work and react to breaking news stories including events in ActionAid countries. You will also work to promote our campaigns which currently include our tax justice campaign and our campaign to prevent violence against women and girls. (Please express a preference if you would like to focus on one or other of these two campaigns).

By providing specialist expertise on news and current affairs you will raise our profile and reach within target audiences. This will involve working with senior journalists and editorial staff to deliver impactful news and current affairs content in broadcast, print and online in a pressurised work environment. You will be comfortable working in a digital media environment employing a variety of different techniques to tell our stories. You will develop strong relationships with external public affairs, PR and media practitioners as well as contribute to the development of a strategic and forward-thinking media relations programme.

It is essential that you have experience of working in media relations, print, digital or broadcast journalism in a national, high profile organisation, coupled with a demonstrable track record of success in obtaining influential media coverage. You will be able to show good political and news judgment as well as knowledge of current affairs - complemented by a high level understanding of the media landscape in general. You will also be able to explain complex issues to mass audiences.

You will have a good contact network and have the ability to effectively manage frequently changing priorities on a daily basis. You will bring resilience and determination to the role and you will have excellent story-finding skills. Above all – you will be a creative thinker able to bring drive and ambition to our work.
